For Over 25 Years, Yamaha Drums Has Provided Kits and Tech Support to Premier Music Festival

In 1985, Yamaha Drums became the official drum sponsor of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Each year since then, Yamaha, along with staff from Ray Fransen’s Drum Center, have provided top-quality drum sets and tech support for every stage of the festival. This year, a dozen stages received the Yamaha Drums treatment, including the debut of the new Club Custom drum set on the Gentilly Stage, along with Rock Tour, Oak Custom, Stage Custom Birch, Recording Custom and Absolute series kits.

“Every morning we got up early and ran from stage to stage checking drums,” said David Jewell, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums. “The Club Custom kit was a big hit. The performers loved them.”

In an innovative cross-partnership, during the festival Acura displayed the new TSX Sport Wagon, highlighting its generous 60.5 cu-ft cargo capacity and award winning ELS Surround® premium audio system. A unique display utilized a specially constructed glass box (also exactly 60.5 cu ft), containing a Club Custom drum that demonstrated the TSX Sport Wagon’s utility and relevance to the musical setting.

At the annual event, Yamaha Drums provided full service backup to all of its kits, so that festival producers can deal with other issues. “Yamaha drums are always the most consistent, high quality drums that we could use,” said Eddie Pearce, the festival’s Staging Production Director. “That is why we have had such a long relationship with Yamaha Drums.”

When the festival ends, the staff of Ray Fransen’s Drum Center packed up all 12 drum sets and brought them to their shop in Kenner, Louisiana, the state’s oldest and largest establishment dedicated solely to drumming, where they were sold to the public.
