The Drummer Cafe recently caught up with jazz drummer/educator, John Riley, at the Memphis Drum Shop while attending the 2010 Cymbal Summit; May 7th and 8th.
John holds a Bachelor of Music degree in jazz education from the University of North Texas and a Masters of Music in jazz studies from Manhattan School of Music. He is now on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music, The New School and William Paterson College, as well as the author of The Art of Bop Drumming, Beyond Bop Drumming, The Jazz Drummer's Workshop: Advanced Concepts for Musical Development, and his latest DVD, The Master Drummer - How to Practice, Play and Think Like a Pro.
In this interview, John demos a Zildjian 22" Ride cymbal proto-type designed by drummer, Adam Nussbaum. He also talks about his personal collection of Zildjian cymbals used in his Friday night Cymbal Summit performance, and gives a brief update as to what he's been up to lately as well as what he has going on for the remainder of 2010.
