BIOGRAPHY
Chuck Silverman, born on January 8, 1952 in Montreal, Canada, was a drummer, author, clinician, educator, and producer, best known as a specialist in applying Afro-Caribbean rhythms to the drumset.
A former student of Murray Spivack and Richard Wilson, as well as studying musicology at UCLA, Chuck was at home teaching all styles of drumming as well as snare drum technique.
Over the decades, Silverman has offered private drum instruction to drummers living in the Los Angeles, CA area, helping them improve their feel, groove, soloing, and timekeeping. He's also been conducting research opportunities for drummers and percussionists to travel to Cuba for further study.
Silverman was a contributor and featured writer in many drum-related magazines around the globe including Talking Drums, Modern Drummer, Slagwerkkrant (The Netherlands), Rhythm (UK), Batteur (France), Drums and Percussion (Germany), Sticks (Germany) and Percussioni (Italy). He also contributed numerous articles to the Percussive Arts Society's periodical, Percussive Notes, and presented several clinics during past Percussive Arts Society International Conventions (PASIC).
Chuck Silverman was an early member of the Drummer Cafe (f/k/a The Drum Ring International), joining the VIP ranks in the late 90s.
In 2012, Silverman launched a new subscription lesson website, silvermanlessons.com. He was also an instructor at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA.
Chuck Silverman died unexpectedly on May 1, 2014; he was 62 years old. Silverman is lying in state at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries in Simi Valley, CA.
