Gavin Harrison

Gavin Harrison, born on May 28, 1963 in Harrow, Middlesex, England, is an English drummer and percussionist, best known for playing with the British progressive rock bands Porcupine Tree and King Crimson.

Gavin started playing the drums at a young age and by the time he was sixteen, was working as a professional musician. His first high-profile gig was touring with the English progressive rock band, Renaissance, from 1983 to 1984.

As a freelance musician, Harrison has recorded and/or toured with such artists as Artful Dodger, Black, Chizuko Yoshihiro, Devogue, Eros Ramazzotti, Incognito, Lisa Stansfield, Lewis Taylor, Paul Young, Iggy Pop, Level 42, Porcupine Tree, OSI, King Crimson, Shooter, Dizrhythmia,The Kings Of Oblivion, Sam Brown, Tom Robinson, Go West, Gail Ann Dorsey, B J Cole, Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin, Nathan East, Yasuaki Shimizu, Camouflage, Kevin Ayers, Claudio Baglioni, Franco Battiato, Jakko, Richard Barbieri, and Mick Karn.

In 2002, Harrison joined the English rock band, Porcupine Tree, and continues to work with them to this day. Five years later, in 2007, he joined King Crimson as part of the band's dual-drummer line-up with Pat Mastelotto. After playing a number of US shows with the band in August 2008, King Crimson took a hiatus. Robert Fripp, who would later retire from the music industry only to re-enter again, formed a new side project, Jakszyk Fripp Collins, with Gavin holding down the drum chair. As of September 2014, Gavin Harrison is one of the three drummers in the new seven-member formation of King Crimson.

On August 23, 2011, Gavin was a featured performer on the Late Show with David Letterman as part of their second "Drum Solo Week"; other drummers included Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart, and Dennis Chambers.
