BIOGRAPHY
Pat Mastelotto, born Lee Patrick Mastelotto on September 10, 1955, in Chico, California, is an American rock drummer and producer, best known for work with Mr. Mister and King Crimson. While in King Crimson, Mastelotto initially formed part of the "double trio" lineup, joining Bill Bruford on drums.
Having played drums since he was 10 years old, Pat experienced his first Top 10 recording with Martin Briley. After providing beat bravado for four Mr. Mister albums, with two #1 singles — "Broken Wings" and "Kyrie" — Mastelotto went on record the likes of XTC, Cock Robin, The Rembrandts (#1hit), Jude Cole, Tina Arena, Michael Penn, Hall & Oats, Pointer Sisters, Patti Labelle, Robyn Hitchcock, the Sugercubes, David Sylvian and Robert Fripp.
In 1994, the double trio of the legendary King Crimson was formed; Mastelotto partnering with Bill Bruford, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Trey Gunn and Robert Fripp.
In 2000, King Crimson employed the double duo with Belew, Fripp, Gunn and Mastelotto. In 2008, Belew, Fripp, and Tony Levin were joined by Gavin Harrison and Pat on drums.
Having left Los Angeles and moved to Austin, Texas, Mastelotto continues his outside work for an ever increasing international clientele like Steven Wilson, Kimmo Pohjonen, Markus Reuter, Lorenzo Feliciati , John Paul Jones, Flower Kings, Steve Hackett, Peter Kingsbery, Isuldurs Bane and also local Austinites Trail of the Dead, Abra Moore, Chrysta Bell, Malford Milligan, Mastica, and others.
Pat has spent a lifetime jumping genres from pop, to prog-rock ,to electronica to world music and the unlimited boundaries of Crimson providing a natural segue for Mastelotto's entry into one of the more extreme improvised experiments: HoBoLeMa — with Alan Holdsworth, Terry Bozzio and Tony Levin. He also continues to tour and work with with a variety of band projects: TU, KTU, TUner, TUnisia, and Stick Men, all while still a member of King Crimson.
