Sheila E.

Sheila E., born Sheila Escovedo on December 12, 1957 in Oakland, California, is an American drummer and percussionist, best known for her work with Prince, George Duke and Ringo Starr.

Escovedo is an Emmy and Grammy Award–nominee. She has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Prince, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, Con Funk Shun, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Billy Cobham, Lionel Richie, Ringo Starr, Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Hans Zimmer, Kanye West, and numerous others.

As a solo artist, Sheila E. has a number of studio albums to her credit; The Glamorous Life (1984), Romance 1600 (1985), Sheila E. (1987), Sex Cymbal (1991), Writes of Passage (2000), Heaven (2001), and ICON (2013).

Sheila E. is heavily involved as a philanthropist with various charitable organizations, promoting music and arts education as an alternative form of therapy.

In September 2014, Sheila E. released a new book, The Beat of My Own Drum: A Memoir.
